More than two thousand people across California did something to spruce up their community today and at least one hundred of them were right here on the central coast.

In Atascadero, volunteers spruced up the local park. They weeded, cleaned out spillways, and even tractored the horse shoe pits.

It was all part of a program called Mormons Helping Hands.

"We're having a wonderful day, we're out here today doing what we call, a part of our Mormon Helping Hands program which is to go out into our communities and find out ways in which we can improve them," said volunteer Denise Mortorff.

The group emphasizes that anyone can participate, no matter their religious affiliation.
