Induced labor is now on the decline despite steady increases during the past 20 years.
A new government report finds induction rates for single births dropped in 2011 and 2012 to 23.3 percent of all deliveries.
Inductions were down for all gestational ages, but especially from 35 to 38 weeks.
Researchers say obstetric practice has changed. Recent studies showed an increased risk of complications and death among infants delivered before 38 weeks.
