We all know summertime brings a wealth of tomatoes from gardens everywhere. On the central coast, they keep coming in massive quantities through fall. That's why a group of local restaurants have come together to celebrate the fruit most people consider a vegetable.
The "Ode to Tomato Festival" was inspired by the poem by Pablo Neruda and a desire to celebrate the sweet possibilities of garden fresh tomatoes in local cuisine.
From now through September 29th, chefs at the Gardens of Avila at Sycamore Mineral Springs, Marisol Restaurant at the Cliff's Resort in Shell Beach, Apple Farm Restaurant in San Luis Obispo, and Sea Venture Resort in Pismo beach will be serving up special multi-course tomato inspired dinner menus paired with a rose wine list.
The month will wrap up with two "al fresco" dinners with music in garden settings. There will also be a bloody mary contest at Sea Venture Resort on Sunday, September 22nd from noon to 3 p.m.
