Jason Lezak to be Honored at Halftime of Men's Soccer Game on Saturday

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara alum and four-time Olympic gold medalist Jason Lezak will be honored by the UCSB Alumni Association at the halftime break of this Saturday's nationally televised men's soccer game against Cal Poly. The game is set to kick off at 8:00 p.m.

Lezak will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award, joining an exclusive group that includes Oscar winners Michael Douglas ('68) and Eric Roth ('66), astronaut Leroy Chiao ('85), underwater explorer Bob Ballard ('65) and more.

Following the halftime festivities, Lezak will join the Fox Sports Prime Ticket broadcast team for a second half interview. The broadcast of the game can be found locally on the following channels - Cox Communications: 36/1036 (standard definition/HD), DIRECTV: 693, DISH Network: 411.

Lezak is best remembered for his anchor leg in the 4X100 freestyle relay at the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing. Trailing by a full body length at the start of his leg, he completed his run in a record 46.06 seconds to take the win, beating second place France by eight one-hundreths of a second, the closest finish in the history of the event.

Lezak's heroics helped teammate Michael Phelps earn a record eight gold medals in the 2008 Games.

Just a year removed from his time at UCSB, Lezak earned his first medals in the 2000 Summer Olympics with a silver in the 4X100 freestyle relay and a gold in the 4X100 medley relay.

He would go on to grab gold in the medley relay in both 2004 and 2008 as well. He medaled in the freestyle relay in each Olympics that he participated in. Besides his gold in 2008 and silver in 2000, he also received a silver in 2012 and a bronze in 2004.

His sole individual medal came in 2008, when he placed third in the 100 meter freestyle.
