Joe Domingues is no stranger to winning. He recently took first place at the California state games AAU regional championships for the 1500 meter race. What's more impressive is his fastest time in the 1500, 4:26:24, is good for third in the in the AAU National Jr. Olympic Championships. But more impressive than that, Joe is a cancer survivor.
In 2011 Joe was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, a cancer that attacks the lymphatic system. "You could have shot me and I wouldn't have felt." Joe's father, Joseph Domingues, explains.
But for Joe, like he does with most things he does, took it in stride. Joe says, "You just go into another mode, your mind just sort of slows down and you say, wow, I never thought that would happen to me in a million years. But it did it and just shows you how life is going to hit you and you always got to be prepared for it."
Joe's next step is now competing on a National Stage. He will run Nationals July 28th at Drake University (Blue Oval) Iowa as the #3 seed in the nation.
