The Central Coast duo of Alyssa Palma and Aria Johnson combined to score 40 points and lead the Cuesta College women's basketball team to a third place finish at the San Diego Mesa Tournament on Saturday. The two led the Cougars to a 62-41 win over host San Diego Mesa in the third place game.

The Lady Cougars improved to 10-5 overall under head coach Ron Barba, their best start in several years.

Johnson, a Morro Bay High graduate, led the Cougars with 26 points and 7 rebounds. The sophomore made the All-Tournament team.

Palma, a sophomore from Atascadero High, poured in 14 points.

Cuesta returns to action December 28 at the Grossmont Tournament in San Diego.
