I love looking out at the Pacific. Even more so when there's a lovely boat passing by. That's why my pick of the week for getting Out and About on the Central Coast is the Zongo Yachting Cup happening tomorrow.
It's a boating race from Morro Bay to Avila Beach. It was started by Paul Irving of the Morro Bay Yacht Club 6 years ago to create more camaraderie between other marine enthusiasts on the Central Coast.
With almost 50 vessels signed up so far, it's become the biggest pleasure boating event on the Central Coast, and according to Paul, created a really cool bond between the two yacht clubs.
At 11:00 a.m. tomorrow about 50 boats will leave Morro Bay and head south to Avila Beach. Look for everything from yaughts to paddleboards. You can check them out as they leave the harbor, or as they pass Montana De Oro just south of Scooner's Cove between 11:00 a.m. and noon. You can also head down to Avila Beach and watch the finish. Paul expects boats to start coming in starting around 2:30 or 3:00.
At 4:00 Paul and his Zongo All-Stars will get the party started as they entertain the crowd at Avila Farmer's Market. They will paly until 8:00 p.m.
