Sitting judges from throughout Santa Barbara County have endorsed Measure S. Judges traditionally only endorse judicial races and remain neutral on elected officials and measures.
Because Measure S directly impacts the criminal justice system, judges are taking an active role in the campaign.
Measure S is a 1/2 cent sales tax that would raise money to build another county jail and provide more funding to law enforcement and rehabilitation program. If passed, it would take effect July 1, 2011.
Judges say Measure S will make the community safer by ending the early release of convicted criminals and extend more help to those criminals with alcohol and drug problems.
