July 4th saluted with fireworks, parades, parties

NEW YORK (AP) - Extravagant displays of Fourth of July fireworks have been lighting up the skies around the nation.

Four barges carrying 40,000 shells on New York's Hudson River unleashed a barrage of brilliant reds, whites and blues Thursday night.

Philadelphia, Washington and New Orleans hosted large holiday concerts, and a Civil War reenactment commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg drew as many as 40,000 people to Pennsylvania.

In Arizona, a fire chief read the names of the 19 firefighters killed last weekend battling a wildfire.
