KSBY anchor and reporter Kathy Kuretich has been promoted to co-anchor of Daybreak, KSBY-TV Channel 6 announced Monday.
Kuretich will join Daybreak anchors Richard Gearhart and Dan Shadwell beginning April 1. She has been anchoring weekend newscasts for KSBY since February 2012, but joined the KSBY news team back in April 2011.
"I am thrilled to call the Central Coast and KSBY-TV my home," she said. "This new position on Daybreak has a unique combination of news, information and fun. I am looking forward to joining the great team already in place."
Kuretich is currently on maternity leave after the birth of her first child. She replaces longtime Daybreak anchor Carina Corral, who left KSBY in December to pursue an anchor job at KSEE in Fresno.
"We are incredibly excited to have Kathy join the Daybreak team," says News Director Doug Barden, "She's one of those versatile news anchors that I know will work hard every day to bring the most up to the minute news stories to our viewers."
Daybreak is the top-rated morning news program on the Central Coast. It airs Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. Kuretich brings more than 10 years of experience in the news industry to the morning show. She has worked as a reporter, producer, and anchor at stations in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Marquette, Michigan, and Chicago.
