The 82-year-old man who was arrested for kidnapping a six-month-old girl in Grover Beach pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of disturbing the peace in a San Luis Obispo County courtroom Tuesday morning.

Peter Hewitt was placed on probation for one year and must stay away from the infant's mother, according to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney's Office.

All other charges against Hewitt, including kidnapping and child endangerment, were dropped.

Hewitt was arrested in February after he took the baby from her mother in a Vons parking lot. The mother and child had been staying with Hewitt in his home.
