After all Kirby has been through, KSBY is happy to report he's happy, healthy, and adjusting well to his new permanent home with Susan Wood of Paso Robles.
But Kirby had a tough road.
In 2003, his first owner died just weeks after getting Kirby. The woman's mother, Sharon Rattery inherited Kirby and gave him a loving home for many years.
In April, Sharon passed away and was buried next to her daughter at the Atascadero Cemetary.
That's where Kirby was found wandering a few weeks ago... right by their grave sites... the same place he was when they were buried.
Since we aired his story, we've heard from several of Kirby fans on the Central Coast and around the Country... eager to give him a permanent home.
But in the end, Sharon Rattery's grandson, Dave Wills and Hospice SLO chose Susan Wood to be Kirby's new mom.
Susan call him her own "Mr. Hollywood", because of all the attention he's been getting. She tell us she was watching our newscast when she fell in love with Kirby.
They've been together since Friday and he's been making friends with other neighborhood dogs.
Susan's already picked up on a few of Kirby's quirks. He loves carrots, follows her everywhere, and understandably doesn't like to be left home alone... which doesn't happen very often.
Susan says Kirby now fills a void in her heart, after her own 18 year-old terrier died in 2007.
"I had a big old empty spot, so the Wills' family made it possible for him to jump into that spot and take over," said Susan.
She says Kirby is smart and charming, enjoys lot of cuddle and play time, and is a very happy boy.
