Today marks 15 years since Kristin Smart disappeared from the Cal Poly Campus. She was last seen walking back to her dorm from an off-campus party, with a fellow student. A memorial in her honor at Dinasaur Caves Park in Shell Beach has been closed for months due to storm damage. Engineers have determined it is unsafe with all the erosion.
We spoke with Pismo Beach City leaders today who have decided they will move the memorial plaque to the northern-most look-out spot at the park. That's where a plaque is to honor the Dinasaur Caves Preservation Society, which has given up the spot so Smart can be remembered.
Part of the memorial is a poem Kristen wrote describing how much she loved living near the ocean:
"I face into the wind.
It purrs and whistles
It's secrets in my ear.
Under the sun,
Floating upon the salty waters,
I cringe with excitement,
To be in such a heavenly place."
Her Parents have also created a Facebook page in her honor in the hopes it helps find whoever had a hand in her disappearance. You can get there by clicking here.
