KSBY News is pleased to announce the addition of John Reger as co-anchor of the Central Coast's number one evening newscasts. Beginning Monday, October 4th, Reger joins Jeanette Trompeter on the anchor desk for KSBY's newscasts at 5:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 11:00 p.m. and at 10:00 p.m. on the CW 5.
"I'm at the best station in a fantastic community. I live at the beach, and I get to work with real professionals," said Reger. "How can it get any better?"
Reger comes to KSBY from KION-TV, the CBS affiliate in Monterey County, where he served as a primary anchor and reporter. He has also worked at network-affiliated stations in Utah, Idaho, South Dakota and Minneapolis. The Associated Press and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences have recognized Reger's work with awards for excellence in journalism, including the prestigious Emmy, television's top honor.
"I am thrilled to bring a journalist of John's caliber to the KSBY News team," said KSBY News Director Dave Schermer. "I know John will carry on our rich tradition of bringing viewers information that enhances their lives and connects them with their communities."
Originally from Minneapolis, Reger first came west to attend Stanford University, where he played basketball and graduated with honors in Political Science and Communications.
An avid adventure traveler, Reger has visited more than 90 countries, seen the ‘Wonders of the World,' and climbed some of the world's tallest mountains. He is fluent in Spanish, plays several musical instruments, loves to backpack and surf, and is always up for a good game of hoops.
Reger relieves Richard Gearhart, who has been filling in as co-anchor of the evening editions of KSBY News since the beginning of June. Gearhart, who has been with the station for more than 20 years, will return to KSBY News Daybreak on October 11th. "I am looking forward to returning to Daybreak and reuniting with Carina [Corral] on the Central Coast's leading morning newscast," said Gearhart.
