LOS ANGELES (AP) - A fired employee has been convicted of killing the owner of a bondage club and his dog before torching the building near Los Angeles International Airport.
Deputy District Attorney Marc Chomel said a jury deliberated for about half a day before convicting 55-year-old David Edward Albert on Friday of committing first-degree murder with a handgun allegation, cruelty to an animal and arson.
Detectives said Albert was angry that he had lost his job as a maintenance worker at Passive Studios, which enabled him to socialize with dominatrices and fulfill a sexual fetish.
Police testified that Albert attempted to strangle John Lavine, then shot him several times in the head, killed his dog and set the club ablaze.
Albert is eligible for life in prison when he's sentenced Sept. 14
