L.A. council to revisit medical marijuana ordinance

LOS ANGELES (AP) - A medical marijuana ordinance is being considered this morning by the Los Angeles City Council.

The proposed law could shutter many of the hundreds of dispensaries that have cropped up.

Council members last month hammered out some guidelines for the ordinance that included capping the number of dispensaries between 70 and 200.

The council has opted to allow cash reimbursement at those clinics, even though District Attorney Steve Cooley has said he will go after pot dispensaries involved in over-the-counter sales.

City officials are trying to come up with an ordinance that addresses medicinal marijuana and figure out if the ordinance is permissible under state law.
