LA deputies probe death at Halloween carnival

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the death of a man who somehow became engulfed in flames at West Hollywood's popular Halloween carnival.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Irys Alvarez said detectives were seeking witnesses to Thursday night's incident to determine whether what happened was an accident or a crime.

The Los Angeles Times reports (http://lat.ms/1b5OnKr ) video posted on YouTube shows a man engulfed in flames next to a crowd near a performance stage. Someone can be heard saying, "He's on fire!" as people move in to help the man, whose pants appeared to have caught fire.

The coroner's office said the man - 51-year-old Gilbert Estrada - was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
