LOS ANGELES (AP) - Work on a $1 billion project Los Angeles freeway construction project has been halted after a worker was crushed to death by a 3,000-pound steel beam.
A Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority statement says a thorough investigation into the early Thursday accident will be conducted before work resumes.
The county coroner has identified the worker as 42-year-old Adolfo Wbaldo Figueroa of Lancaster.
The Interstate 405 off-ramp where the accident happened was closed at the time of the accident. California Highway Patrol officers say Figueroa was one of several men unloading the beams off a big rig.
