LOS ANGELES (AP) Investigators say a Los Angeles police officer responding to a 911 robbery call has shot and killed an armed suspect after a brief foot chase in the San Fernando Valley.

Officer Bruce Borihanh says officers on patrol in suburban Canoga Park responded to the 12:20 a.m. emergency call at a Chevron gas station where two pedestrians reported an armed man tried to rob them.

Borihanh says the officers spotted the suspect and began chasing the man on foot. During the pursuit, investigators say the suspect turned and displayed a handgun.

Borihanh says the man was then shot to death by an officer.

The suspect didn't fire his weapon, which was recovered at the shooting scene.
