Sophomore forward Aria Johnson scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Cuesta College women's basketball team to a convincing 71-27win over West Hills in the opening round of the Cougars' annual Phillips 66 Tournament on Thursday.

Johnson, a Morro Bay High graduate, immediately asserted her presence inside with several quick early buckets. Courney Chadwick, the team's leading scorer coming into the tournament, finished with 16 points. The freshman made three 3-pointers.

Cuesta improved to 3-1 under Ron Barba. The Cougars advanced to the semifinals and play Butte College at 7:30 pm on Friday.

The Allan Hancock women lost their tournament opener 72-36 to Orange Coast College. They battle LA Pierce at 1:30 pm Friday.
