The San Luis Obispo Land Conservancy is one step closer to raising the funds needed to buy a piece of land in Pismo Beach.
The group needs $12 million to buy the Pismo Preserve. It wants to turn the area into a space that would be open to public.
At its recent meeting, the Regional Water Quality Control Board awarded $350,000 to the project.
Officials say that leaves about $600,000 left that needs to be raised by approximately August 25.
Lots of money has come in from local and state governments as well as private donations.
The Land Conservancy is hoping to close escrow soon after the Wildlife Conservation Board Meeting on August 28.
