The last place Orange County Pioneers defeated the first place San Luis Obispo Blues baseball team for the second-straight game on Wednesday 10-7 in Sinsheimer Stadium.
The Pioneers improved to 5-9 in California Collegiate League action and 8-12 overall, while the Blues fell to 11-6 in league and 16-8 overall. The Blues are 0-2 ever since PerfectGame.org released its national poll that had the Blues ranked 5th.
Orange County rocked Blues' starter Will Cox. The Mississippi State sophomore allowed 7 hits and 7 earned runs in 3 innings of work. OC built an 8-1 lead after the top of the third inning. They scored 3 in the second and 5 in the third inning.
The Blues got on the board in the bottom of the second inning on a run-scoring single by Brandon Carr to make it a 3-1 game. Trey Porter singled home Matt Shortall in the fourth inning to pull SLO to within 8-2.
SLO climbed to within 8-5 with two runs in the 6th, until OC scored 2 in the seventh to take a 10-5 lead. The Blues rallied for two runs in the eighth and brought the tying run to the plate with no outs in the bottom of the ninth, but could not complete the comeback.
The Blues were out-hit 12-8 in the loss. Porter led SLO with 4 hits, while Will Maddox added 2 hits. Each team committed 5 errors.
The Blues try to avoid the three-game sweep Thursday at 6pm.
