A local laughing competition started with a somber tone in San Luis Obispo Saturday night.
"So You Think You Can Laugh" organizers announced the 54-year-old housewife who recently won the Japanese version of the laughing competition went missing when the tsunami hit Sendai.
In her honor, local participants gave their best laughs, hoping to send some sort of joy to a country facing so much sadness.
The competition was part of this year's San Luis Obispo International Film Festival. Following the contest, the documentary "Laughology" played at the Fremont Theater.
