Lawmakers set to question new parks director

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - California lawmakers are set to question the new acting director of the state parks department, as the agency's financial management has come under fire.

Major Gen. Anthony Jackson is expected to take questions from the Joint Legislative Audit Committee on Tuesday afternoon.

It would be the first time an official from the state Department of Parks and Recreation would publicly answer questions about allegations of financial mismanagement and a secret fund that hid millions of dollars even as the legislature sought to close 70 parks last year to save money.

State Auditor Elaine Howle, who uncovered the alleged hidden funds, is also scheduled to appear to answer questions.
