ATASCADERO, Calif- 17 year old Leah Farris from Atascadero took home gold for team USA in the youth 19 and under Ultimate Frisbee World Championships in Italy on July 26.
The tournament setup for the Ultimate Frisbee World Championships started with pool play. 5 different pools had 5 teams in each pool with the exception of one pool that had 4 teams.
After pool play was done, teams were set up in bracket play with the United States eventually beating Canada in the Finals.
"I was bursting with energy." Farris said. "People just swarmed the field and it was crazy."
For as memorable as winning gold was, Farris also took home fond memories of the people she met in Italy.
"It was super fun just to go hang out with other countries. Go throw a frisbee with the Swiss, or go play little games with the Irish and Germans, it was really cool."
The next step for Farris will be to try and make team USA 23 and under co-ed squad 2 years from now.
