With a 36 inch vertical jump and 7 foot wingspan, it's hard to miss Righetti High's Cameron Walker. The heavily recruited sophomore is a slam-dunk for a Legend in the Making.

Warrior head coach Kevin Barbarick describes his 6'6" super sophomore is a once in a lifetime talent. "I think you'd be hard pressed to find many sophomores in the state or maybe even in the country that possess the abilities and skills that he has," said Barbarick, who praised Cameron for his leadership, athleticism and all-around game.

Last year, Cam became the second freshman to play varsity for the Warriors in Barbarick's 15 year tenure. The first was Cam's older brother Hunter. Cam was more of a role player last season when Hunter helped lead Righetti to a runner-up finish in CIF.

There is no question who the main man on Righetti is this season, a role Cam cherishes. "I like this year's role better because there's more responsibility on my hand and there's more pressure and I actually like pressure, I embrace it," said Walker.

Cam's averaging about 24 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists per game. The Warriors are a perfect 8-0 in Pac7 play behind the play of Walker. They host cross-the-street rival and second place St. Joseph Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. Walker scored 18 points in Righetti's 66-63 win at St.Joseph earlier this season.

Cam has already received six Division I scholarship offers from Cal Poly, San Diego State, Rice, Fresno State, UC Irvine and Oregon State. "A lot of coaches have been contacting me and giving me attention. I definitely like the experience and it's very humbling," said Walker, who's getting looked at by numerous other big time programs.

Playing college ball runs in the Walker family. Cam's father Eric played at Cal Poly after a standout career at Santa Maria High. Hunter is a freshman guard at UC San Diego. Cam credits them for his on the court skills and constant composure.

"They taught me to never get too high, never get too low and have the same body language. And no matter what's happening in the game, never give up, always play your best and try as hard as you can no matter what the score is," said the youngest Walker.

Cam, who has a 4.0 GPA, knows even he has room for improvement. "I need to keep hitting the weight room to get stronger so I can be more physical and definitely my ball handling so I can dribble just as good as a guard even at my height," he added.

Coach Barbarick says there's a chance Cameron could be one of, if not the greatest prep player in Central Coast history. "The sky's the limit for him. He's just knocking on the door of the ability and achievements that he can have," said Barbarick.

Cam lists the achievements he wants to reach as a league title, the program's first CIF-Southern Section championship and another run at a CIF State title.
