The Blues' perfect record at home this summer ended with a 6-0 loss to the Long Beach Legends on Saturday in Sinsheimer Stadium. The Blues dropped to 14-1 at home and 19-5 for the season. The Legends, who are in first place in the Southern California Collegiate League, improved to 20-6 after the non-league victory.
Purdue pitcher Kyle Johnson started on the hill for the Blues and held the Legends scoreless through 4 innings with the help of two double plays turned by his shortstop Aaron Attaway.
Long Beach broke through in the fifth inning with four runs. The first two runs scored on a 2-run double from Jhrett Montana. Johnson was charged with 4 runs in the inning. Grayson Long threw 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief with 3 strikeouts for the Blues.
However, Montana struck again with a 2-run home run in the ninth inning.
The Blues, who are ranked 8th in the nation this week, host the Legends again Sunday at 1 p.m.
