TEMPLETON, Calif. - Templeton's Castle Williams is a rising star in the world of mixed martial arts and on February 8th the 19 year old will get his first title shot. Williams trains at The Pit in Arroyo Grande and is part-owner of The Pit North in Atascadero. He's been training to be a fighter since he was 13 years old.
"It's my vehicle to discover my human potential. I can push myself to my limit every day and that's what I like to do" said Williams.
Williams is 6-0 as an amateur fighter which earned him a Bantamweight title fight at the King of the Cage event in Las Vegas. "It's terrifying, it's absolutely terrifying. People always ask me, are you ready, are you scared and I'm like of course I'm scared and of course I'm not ready" said Williams who will face Cameron Underhill from Corona, California for the title which is currently vacant. "I try not to think about it too much because I'm fighting February 8th and it's going to happen. On February 8th I'm going to walk out to the cage and I'm going to fight somebody and nothings going to change that so why would I worry about it?"
Williams is trained by John Hackleman who led Chuck Liddell to super-stardom in the UFC. "I've trained with John for the last year and a half. I've had three fights under John and all three of those have come by first round finishes. In my opinion he's the best trainer in the world" said Williams.
Hackleman will be in Williams' corner on February 8th, he's hoping to cut down on the number of fighters he works with but plans on staying with Williams until his potential is reached. "I see in Castle what I saw in Chuck in just star quality. You can tell just the way he carries himself that he knows, it's in him" said Hackleman. " When you watch him train in his camp, he's as calm and cool, as collected as any of the UFC guys who have had 30 fights. He's definitely a champion in the making."
Williams trains six days a week, pursuing the same dream he's had since he started training six years ago. "The goal is to be the UFC Bantamweight Champion of the world. That's what keeps me awake at night, that's what keeps me in the gym" said Williams.
His fight against Underhill is the co-main event at the King of the Cage, Future Legends 21 event which will be held at the Eastside Cannery Casino.
