Legends in the Making: Taylor McCreary

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - San Luis Obispo's Taylor McCreary started playing chess with her dad at the age of eight; two years later, she played in her first tournament.

"I guess I'm kind of just a competitive person and I really like to win." said McCreary, "the first tournament I won every game accept for the last round. I got third place in the tournament, but I was like I have to come back and get first and so I did."

McCreary is the 51st ranked under 21 girl in the country and just like any other successful competitor, she's gotten there by putting in the time.

"Ultimately it all comes down to the time that you spend by yourself working on it. In chess you can keep track of all your moves and write them down. So I can go back over the games that I've played to look and see where did I make a mistake what should I have done."

In December, McCreary will compete in the World Youth Championships in Dubai. She'll play one game per day during the two week tournament, which begins on December 17th.
