On Tuesday, the Salinas River began flowing a live stream from the dam at the Salinas Reservoir near the Santa Margarita Lake, according to the hydraulic operations administrator for San Luis Obispo County.

The county closed outlet valves at the dam to comply with a 1973 ruling by the State Water Resources Control Board.

The total inflow to the reservoir will be stored in the lake. The Salinas Reservoir is the primary water supply source for San Luis Obispo city.

After the water stops flowing, all of the inflow to the reservoir will be bypassed through the dam.
