Local agencies are urging people to register for reverse 911 so you can be notified directly when there is an emergency.

It was used Friday to evacuate people in coastal areas. Most landlines are automatically in the system but you will need to manually register your cell phone.

Just head to the Newslinks section of ksby.com to register in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties, as well as Santa Maria, which has a separate city system.
