After riding his bicycle cross country, a local firefighter arrived at his final destination on Sunday.
CAL FIRE Engineer John Byrne began his 3,600-mile trip on September 9.
He traveled from San Francisco to New York to raise money for his sister, Lauren, who suffered a spinal chord injury seven years ago, when she was just 15-years-old.
In a speech he made at the Elks Lodge on Staten Island on Sunday, John said they have now raised almost $55,000, which will help buy a specially-equipped vehicle for Lauren.
Byrne also said, "There's so many great people in the United States and in the world. The little acts of kindness and the support have gotten us to where we're at today."
John stayed in 36 fire stations along the way.
