Several Egyptian families and supporters gathered in Arroyo Grande Saturday to share in the celebration happening around the world.
On Friday, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stepped down, ending what many Egyptians say was a decades-long tyrant regime. Local Egyptians say they can now look forward to the future of their native country.
"The Egyptian friends in Egypt and the Egyptians all over the world, we are proud of the youth of Egypt and proud of what they did," said Joseph Abraham, who was born in Egypt but now lives in Santa Maria.
Egyptians expect to elect a new president by October.
