Firefighters in Arroyo Grande were asking drivers to "Fill the Boot" on Saturday.

Firefighters from Local 4403 took donations at Halcyon and Grand.

Their goal is $5,000 to kick-off their annual fundraising campaign, which raises money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The money will help kids with neuro-muscular disease to attend camps and clinics and get flu shots and vaccines.

Casandra Appleton, the mother of a child with Friedreich's Ataxia, says, "The fact that they're going out and spending their days to help with Muscular Dystrophy Association makes them heroes to so many kids."

The money will help more than 220 local families who rely on services from the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
