Local firefighting community comes together for one of their own and asks for our help

The tables are turned and, this time, San Luis Obispo County firefighters need our help.

The wife of Cal Fire Engineer Garon Coalwell was diagnosed with a very rare cancer called Choriocarcinoma in February 2010, six weeks after giving birth.

Lauri was being treated locally, but had to be transferred to UCLA. She is said to be "responding well to her aggressive treatments and is in good spirits."

On Sunday, the San Luis Obispo County Firefighters Against Cancer (SLOFAC) will host a benefit BBQ starting at noon at the Pozo Saloon in Santa Margarita to help Garon and Lauri Coalwell with their financial burdens. Tickets are $10, which include a meal and one drink.

There are also two motorcycle rides planned: a street ride starts at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday at Santa Maria Harley-Davidson and a dirt ride will be in rural San Luis Obispo County (see the website for more information). Motorcycle ride tickets are $20/person and include a T-shirt, BBQ meal and one drink.

There will also be door prizes for a $5 donation that include tickets to Sea World, season passes to San Luis Obispo's Range Master indoor shooting range, a professional tooth whitening package, Dinner for two at Adelina's Bistro at the Trilogy Golf Club, a hotel stay at the Ritz Carlton in Marina Del Rey, among many, many other items.
