The city of Santa Maria honored two young girls Tuesday evening for their volunteering efforts with animals.
13-year-old Leslie Torres and 11-year-old Regina Mariscal of Santa Maria were honored by the city's Recreation and Park Commission with the President's Volunteer Service Award.
The girls dedicated more than 100 hours of service to the DOGE 911 junior vet program.
During their volunteer hours they taught people about animal care and disaster planning.
