A local group is on a mission to save animals in San Luis Obispo County.

Animal Shelter Adoption Partners, or ASAP, is launching its "Join the Pack" campaign.

It calls for all pet owners to put a visible ID on their pet and spay or neuter their animal.

Organizers hope their efforts will free up space at the county shelter and keep animals from being euthanized.

"If we run a shelter of maybe 30 dogs and 30 cats, no problem, everybody at the end of the day feels good," said Terry Parry, founder of ASAP. "Animals get adopted, nobody has to die."

Starting next week animal services will have coupons available for $40 off a spay or neuter at any vet in the county.

Local businesses are also helping out.

Tails Boutique and Lemos Food and Pet Supply are offering discounts on ID tags.
