Sometimes the most painful part of going to the emergency room is the waiting.
A new on line tool on Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center's website aims to help.
Listed on the hospital's home page is the estimated wait time in the ER.
It is updated every five minutes and is averaged from the time a patient waits to be escorted to a bed from the time they arrive in the ER.
Admitting staff said it receives numerous calls a day from people wondering about the wait time.
"I would imagine that many of these people are calling three or four E.R.s in the county just to see what the shortest wait time is now all they have to do is log onto sierravistaregional.com and they can see what the actual wait time is," said the hospital's spokesperson, Ron Yukelson.
The wait time may change in the event of life threatening emergencies that take precedence.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the average hospital ER wait time to see a physician is nearly 56 minutes.
Yukelson said Sierra Vista's average wait time is 20 minutes.
