Local Catholic Healthcare West hospitals are offering non-profit organizations grant money.
The annual grant program is aimed at local non-profits with an interest in building healthier communities.
French Hospital Medical Center is offering $40,758; Arroyo Grande Community Hospital is offering $25,000; and Marian Medical Center is offering $94,034.
The money from each hospital will be divided among several organizations.
The criteria for the 2011 grants will focus on the following areas: cardiac wellness, cancer prevention, resources and education, diabetes prevention and management, general healthcare education and disease prevention, and outreach to the underserved.
Projects that address at least one of these areas will be given priority.
Some of last year's local Community Grant recipients include the Arroyo Grande High School, Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo County, Central Coast Commission for Senior Citizens, the El Camino Homeless Organization, Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County, Good Samaritan Shelter, Inc., Santa Maria Valley YMCA, and Transition Food & Shelter.

Applications are due Friday, August 20, 2010.
After review by a local volunteer grants committee, several organizations will be invited to submit a full proposal in October, and the CHW Investment Committee will approve the final grant in early December.
