A group of officers came running through the central coast for the first day of this year's law enforcement torch run.

It kicked off in Paso Robles, and runners came through San Luis Obispo around five this evening. In all, more than four thousand officers around southern California will carry a torch more than 1,500 miles. An outpouring from the community helped go towards funding this year's Special Olympics.

"A few months ago, we participated in the tip-a-cop, two nights generated $55,000, which is incredible," said Steve Gesell, San Luis Obispo Police Chief.

The Summer games will begin at Cal State Long Beach on June 9th.
