Local museum wants your spare change

If you have some spare change in your pocket, here's a good way to get rid of it.

The Santa Maria Natural History Museum is collecting pennies to pay for their programs.

Their goal to collect one million pennies.

So far the museum has collected 100,000 pennies or $1,000.

Virginia Souza, of the Natural History Museum told KSBY News, "The $10,000 raised from the penny project will be used to hire an employee for the museum. "

You can drop off your pennies in the big jar at the museum at 412 South McClelland Street, across from Santa Maria City Hall.
