If you're planning on seeing the box office hit "Life of Pi" this weekend, you might hear the work of a local musician.
The San Luis Obispo Symphony's music director, Michael Nowak, was the orchestra conductor for the movie, and this isn't even his first big gig. Nowak also worked on the popular films "King Kong," "The Kite Runner," and even "The Hangover."
He says music in movies is an important part of the story. "I think from day one, they knew that music could affect the emotions of what is happening on the screen and could bring it to life more than just conversation and acting," Nowak said.
Nowak also worked on the movie "Parental Guidance," which comes out this December. Nowak has been the SLO Symphony music director for over 20 years.
