A good photographer will tell you timing is everything. At least, that's what Chuck Jennings would say. He's on a mission to capture one moment full of history.
"I wanted character. I wanted personality," Chuck, of San Luis Obispo said.
He made a name photographing cars but now points his camera at something with much better mileage.
"I wanted to shoot people that have a lot of character in their face and usually that's the result of having a lot of life experiences."
His subjects have years, decades, lifetimes of stories and to capture it, Chuck listened.
"I never tell the person, "now move this way, is this your best side, give me this side and now cock your head this way and look at the camera and say cheese."
With two chairs and a warm conversation, Chuck's friend Mike Malkin came in for a photoshoot.
Lost in conversation about Mike's grandson, Chuck's camera became secondary.
"We came upon a lizard on a rock and he just stopped and I realized, he's never seen a lizard before," Mike said. "I realized how wonderful it is at my age to be able to experience a lizard for the first time."
Chuck's project is teaching him that while years may age the body, time brings something new.
"I didn't realize that I was going to end up with a series of images that told a much bigger story," Chuck said.
So when the conversation ended and downloading the photos onto his computer, he noticed the movement of emotions across his screen. He was reading back a story told through expressions.
Without the words, he says, you have to fill in the gaps for yourself, projecting yourself into the stories of a lifetime.
One by one they pass by- little moments in time.
