A Central Coast man's poem is heading to the red planet.
James Kotsybar's haiku will be launched with the NASA MAVEN probe.
Kotsybar entered his poem to compete with more than 12,000 other entries.
The university of Colorado Boulder says all of the haikus receiving more than two votes will be saved on a DVD that's sent with the probe.
Kotsybar's haiku was given special recognition by the MAVEN team.
His poem reads: "MAVEN tastes the air too thin to hold oceans' broth wafted on sol's winds."
