Santa Rosa Academic Academy in Atascadero has been honored for its health and wellness program.
The school's PTA established the program that teaches students about the importance of fruits, veggies and daily exercise in fun, tasty ways by giving kids samples, kid-friendly recipes and fun facts.
"It's much easier to use processed foods and fast foods, but we want to show them its just as economical and easy to prepare fresh foods," the program's chair Veronica DeCoster told KSBY News in a past interview.
Their efforts were recognized by the California PTA with the 2012 School Wellness Bronze Award.
It is just one of 20 schools statewide recognized.
