Local Spotlight: "Speedy"

The UCSB Arts and Lectures Silent Film Series continues Wednesday night with another Harold Lloyd classic.

Lloyd plays Harold "Speedy" Smith - he's in love and doing his best to impress his girlfriend, but they're jammed on a train without a seat.

If you've ever been in that position, you can probably appreciate this little trick to free up some space.

It's just one of the clever bits in Lloyd's last silent film, which features some fantastic footage of New York City in its heyday from Coney Island to Yankee Stadium.

There's even a cameo by Babe Ruth.

You can catch "Speedy" Wednesday night at 7:30 at Campbell Hall on the UCSB campus.

It's free, as is the second screening under the stars at 8:30 on Friday night at the Sunken Garden next to the Santa Barbara County Courthouse.

The "Chaplin, Keaton, Lloyd: Comedy Classics of the Silent Era" series wraps up next week with Chaplin's masterpiece, "Modern Times."
