Local Spotlight: "The Freshman" starring Harold Lloyd

If you haven't had a chance to check out some of the classic silent film comedies, you can this summer, thanks to UCSB Arts and Lectures.

The series "Chaplin, Keaton, Lloyd Comedy Classics of the Silent Era" kicked off Wednesday night with Harold Lloyd starring in "The Freshman."

Critic Dave Kehr says, "Lloyd was the funniest screen comic of his time."

In "The Freshman," he plays a nerdy college student who joins the school's football team.

He's no burly brawler, but figures out some ways to work around that.

It was Lloyd's biggest box office hit.

If you missed the first viewing, "The Freshman" is back for a "screening under the stars" Friday night at the Santa Barbara County Courthouse Sunken Garden with a live pianist.
