Local teachers rewarded for Power Reading program

Some local teachers are being rewarded for their work and dedication to helping their students learn to read.

The United Way of Northern Santa Barbara County awarded incentive checks to Auni Baldwin and Teri Magni at Santa Maria High School, Dino Wharton at Vandenberg Middle School, Lynette Martin at Buena Vista Elementary School, and Samantha Freund at Battles Elementary School.

All of the teachers earned the Top Power Reading Teachers Incentive Prizes for their school district.

Power Reading teachers have been in competition this school year for the top prize of $500 and 2nd place prize of $250.

Power Reading is a United Way literacy program offered to schools and for home study students to improve literacy skills and abilities.
