Santa Barbara resident Lauren Capone captured the Ironman 70.3 World Championship over the weekend in Henderson, Nevada.

Lauren won the women's 20-24 years old category with a time of 4:52.52m edging the second place finisher by 35 seconds.

The Ironman 70.3 event is half of the Ironman distance. It consists of a 1.2 mile swim, followed by a 56 mile bike ride and a 13.1 mile run.

Capone qualified for the World Championships by winning the amateur women's title at the Ironman 70.3 in Lawrence, Kansas on June 12.
