Nearly 200 locals joined forces on Sunday to help kids.
Members of the KSBY team and other community members gathered at Mustang Lanes on the Cal Poly campus Sunday morning to help Big Brothers, Big Sisters of San Luis Obispo County.
It was the annual "Bowl for Kids' Sake" event, which raises money to help local youth mentoring programs.
"People have been raising funds for a couple of months, and today we're celebrating that we will be bringing in approximately $25,000 from this amazing event," said Sarah Rudd-Lawlor, Program Director for Big Brothers, Big Sisters San Luis Obispo County.
Rudd-Lawlor says they love doing the bowling event because it's kid and community friendly.
"Bowling is a great opportunity to bring littles and bigs who may not have otherwise been able to be involved in some of our other fundraisers to come out and support an activity that they already enjoy. Plus, we really enjoy the team aspect where teams of community members such as KSBY come together and have friendly competition," said Rudd-Lawlor.
She says it costs $1000 per year to fund a "little" in the program, but for every dollar donated, 25 dollars will eventually be put back into the community. According to Rudd-Lawlor, kids in their program are more likely to go to college and less likely to use violence or engage in bullying, meaning they'll better contribute to the community as adults.
